arcata
Situated on the north side of the bay and nestled up against the redwoods, there’s a lot to love about Arcata! The city has a wide range of residential construction, from settlement-era Victorians in Northtown and East Arcata to 1940’s Bungalows in Greenview, Pierson-style homes in Sunny Brae and Northwest Arcata to contemporary ranch subdivisions in Windsong, the Vaissades and Pacific Manor. The Central Business District surrounding the plaza offers local restaurants, shops and other service businesses, with recreation options from Mad River Beach to the Arcata Community Forest. Humboldt State University is the largest government employer in the county and has been a significant source of demand for single family and multifamily properties for many decades.

eureka
On the opposite side of the bay lies the City of Eureka, the County seat and the largest of Humboldt’s communities. Eureka Sprawls from Jacobson Avenue on the northeast to Herrick Avenue on the southwest and is bisected by US Highway 101, funneling tourists through over the summer. Old Town offers a historic perspective, with local shops and dining, while many of the town’s more contemporary and corporate businesses are lined up along Broadway, including the Bayshore Mall. Eureka offers the widest range of employment and affordable housing stock, relative to competing areas in Arcata and McKinleyville.
mckinleyville
North of Arcata and sprawling on the east and west sides of the US Highway 101 corridor lies McKinleyville, the largest bedroom community of Humboldt Bay. Central Avenue bisects this growing community, and comprises most of the town’s commercial development. McKinleyville is considered a principle growth area, accounting for most of the County’s new construction over the last five to ten years. What it lacks in employment options, it makes up for in housing stock, with a mix of single family residential subdivisions and scattered multifamily developments.
